Go-Kit unboxing - October 21, 2020

This month we will unbox our Go-Kits and get ideas for our own Go-kits. We haven't been called out this year (yet) but we should make sure our go-kits are still ready to grab. Be prepared to pull the lid off your go-kit and show the rest of the gang what you've got.

We'll meet on Zoom at 7:00 PM, check your email. If you'd like to join us and you've not received the email drop a note to kc9unz [at] arrl [dot] net and I'll send you a copy of the meeting information. Please see the attachments to this post for a number of examples of Go-Kit recommendations that we'll discuss and improve upon during our meeting.

Dane/Iowa ARES/RACES discusses APRS - A disconnected Node at the July 15, 2020 Meeting

Jeff lead a discussion on APRS for the July 15 meeting. Having toyed with it last year at Bike the Barns, particularly with a setup that was not connected to the internet, he wanted to demo how he set up a node using his Kenwood TH-D72 and a small laptop and was able to track SAG vehicles while unconnected to the internet. He also demonstrated how connecting it to the internet both receives and transmits local locations.
Sadly there is no zoom video of this meeting, however the presentation and a link to the software used can be found below.

For those who would like feel free to message Jeff KC9UNZ's APRS node at address KC9UNZ-11. It is up and running for the foreseeable future.

Denny K9LGU spoke to the Dane/Iowa County ARES/RACES group about the National Traffic System

On June 17th Denny K9LGU gave us an overview of the National Traffic System as well as tips on the best ways to send traffic. It was an exciting meeting too since in the middle of it everyone got to experience a Zoom bombing. I've learned never to make a meeting ID, AND PASSWORD, publicly available. Please see below for a number of items from the meeting. You will find a links to the video (I've removed the Zoom bomb, so there will be a short interruption in the middle), the presentation (PDF and Powerpoint), copies of the Radiogram form and the ICS 213 and some practice messages to send.

Denny K9LGU, ARES Wisconsin Section Traffic Manager will Present this Month

Denny, K9LGU will be joining us to talk about the National Traffic System on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:00 PM. He is the ARES Wisconsin Section Traffic Manager. Since we've been wrestling of late with creating Radiograms and ICS-213 messages, and since we announce that we will accept NTS messages at the beginning of every one of our net meetings I figured we should have have a passing familiarity with the National Traffic System, just in case we get someone who has an "NTS" message! Please see below for the Zoom Meeting Invitation.

Please use the information below to connect to our meeting on Wednesday.
