MARA Makes the ARRL Audio News

As you (must) know we are grateful to the Madision Area Repeater Association (MARA) for the use of their 147.150 repeater as the primary location for our weekly net. Every Thursday at 8PM MARA has a net meeting and part of that meeting is to play the ARRL Audio News for the week. One of the features of the Audio News is to feature various nets where the Audio News can be heard. MARA got a shout out on the December 31, 2021 Audio News (that they played on Jan 6). A link to the Audio News follows. If you don't have time to listen to the whole episode scroll ahead to about minute 6 and hear the shout out to MARA.

SIMCOM 2022 Date Moved and Renamed

Due to the rising caseload of COVID-19 infections and out of caution for all attendees the decision has been made to cancel SIMCOM 2022 as scheduled for February 2022 and reschedule to October 12-14, 2022 as SIMCOM 2023. The larger exercise host will be Rock County with a smaller, remote exercise run concurrently in Wood County (Oct 14, 2022 ONLY) in conjunction with the WI ARES/RACES conference held on October 15 in Wisconsin Rapids.

We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our hosts at the Wilderness Resort as well as our No Host Social participants.

While this is disappointing for all, the risk of spreading the virus has to be mitigated by all participants. The planning team appreciates your understanding and we all look forward to being in person this fall.

Join us at the November 24th "Face to Face" Meeting

We'll be meeting "face-to-face" once more this year using Zoom. We won't keep you too long since some of you will be making pies. We have some end of the year house keeping to attend to and Tom will be telling us a bit about FM38, a network of repeaters I just learned about a week or so ago. If you did not get the email with the information send me an email at kb9orn [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll send you a copy of the information for our meeting. See you there!

September 2021 ARES/RACES Monthly Meeting

Well boys and girls, its time to get together again. We will meet virtually on Wednesday, September 29th at 7:30 PM, using Zoom (Please email kc9unz [at] arrl [dot] net if you have not recieved the zoom contact info).

The last time we met we walked through the documentation that we have at the hospitals for the amateur stations. I intended for our next meeting that we would complete that walk through and lo and behold it looks like we made it through. Our conversations left us with some outstanding questions and things on our to-do lists.

So here is what we will discuss on Wednesday.

Combining a Radiogram with ICS 213?

The Winlink Development Team has worked in concert with Radio Relay International to combine the routing "meta" information on the radiogram with the standard ICS-213 form to facilitate more accurate transmission of traffic. They have included this new form in the set of templates in Winlink Express and they have provided a fillable copy of the form on their web site at: https://img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/dd331e82-b378-4397-9745-89c8d4c0713e/downloads/RRI-Form-1703-ICS-Final-Approved-No-Lines-FILL.pdf?ver=1616353384366. Let's take a look at it and discuss how we might use it.
